The session will highlight the importance of recognizing emotional and psychological distress.
It will encourage individuals to speak openly about their feelings without fear of judgment.
Participants will learn how to identify warning signs and offer support to those in need.
The talk will also focus on reducing the stigma surrounding mental health concerns.
Experts will share practical guidance on coping with stress, anxiety, and emotional challenges.
The session will promote healthy habits that contribute to overall mental well-being.
We will discuss the importance of seeking professional help when it is needed.
Participants will learn how listening and showing compassion can make a meaningful difference.
The event will encourage stronger peer, family, and community support systems.
It will empower everyone to become more aware, empathetic, and supportive.
The discussion will emphasize that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness.
Together, we can promote hope, understanding, and a culture of care.
Let us come together to spread awareness, support one another, and help save lives.

Event Report

The Mental Health and Wellness Committee, in collaboration with the Psychology Books & Journals (PB&J) Club and the Department of Psychology, organised the “You Matter – Speak Up, Reach Out, Stay Connected” World Suicide Prevention Day Workshop on 10 September 2026. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Gagandeep Kaur Sethi, a Double Gold Medallist and Clinical Psychologist, who engaged students in meaningful discussions and interactive activities focused on suicide prevention, mental well-being, empathy, communication, and seeking support. The workshop included role-playing, perspective-taking, and active participation, enabling students to explore mental health concerns beyond a theoretical understanding. A hopeful video was screened towards the conclusion, reinforcing messages of connection and support. The College Counsellor also addressed the students and introduced them to the counselling and mental health support services available within the college. As part of the initiative, a Saathi Support awareness stall was set up near the Gurudwara, and a poster submission activity encouraged students to creatively communicate messages of hope and suicide prevention. Students were also encouraged to wear yellow as a symbol of hope and solidarity. A total of 147 students actively participated in the workshop. Feedback was highly positive, with students appreciating the interactive nature of the workshop and reporting that they gained meaningful insights from the activities and discussions. Overall, the program successfully promoted awareness, empathy, openness, connection, and help-seeking, while encouraging students to support one another and approach conversations about mental health with greater sensitivity and compassion.
